Education - Scout Programs

The History Center welcomes all levels of Scouts. We offer group tours and badge & patch activities. If you would like to schedule a tour for your troop, please e-mail Erin Murray, ekmurray@hswp.org or call 412-454-6314.

Badge & Patch Activities
The History Center works with Scout organizations in the tri-state area to offer merit badge activities. Programs are available for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.

Your registration fee of $5.50 per Scout and adult, paid upon entry covers admission to the museum. Once the Scouts complete their requirements, you may enjoy your brown bag lunch in the Multipurpose Room on the fourth floor or have lunch in our cafe on the first floor. After the group finishes lunch, please feel free to stay and explore the rest of the museum, which is open daily until 5 p.m.

Our Scout badge and patch programs are self-guided experiences. Depending upon the Scout's age level, the leaders and parents may need to participate.

GIRL SCOUTS
All regular History Center petals, patches and badges are scheduled on Saturdays with a registration time on the half hour beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at noon.

Our Girl Scout programs are self-guided experiences. Each Girl Scout and adult will be given a badge booklet. Depending upon the girls' level, the leaders and parents may need to participate.

The badges take approximately 2-3 hours to complete. Once they finish the booklets, the Girl Scouts will have met the requirements for the badge. You may purchase the badge through your council.

If you are interested in attending one of our exciting programs, please register with Erin Murray, ekmurray@hswp.org or 412-454-6314 at least one week in advance of your chosen date.

BOY SCOUTS
Currently, we have several opportunities for Boy Scouts of all levels. We have troop tours that may be docent lead or self toured, as well as engaging activities such as our Scavenger Hunt.

If you would like to schedule a tour for your troop, please e-mail Erin Murray, ekmurray@hswp.org or call 412-454-6314.

Boy Scout Badges
Our Boy Scout programs are self-guided experiences. Each Boy Scout and adult will be given a badge booklet. Your troop will follow the directions in the booklet, complete the activities and visit various exhibits. The Scouts will learn skills such as map reading, research and of course, local history.

When the Scouts finish the booklets, they will have met the requirments for the badge. Once completed, make sure that the blue card is signed by the museum volunteer at the registration table. You can then purchase badges through your district.

We are developing badges for all levels of Boy Scouts, so please check back in the fall of 2007 for our new offerings. Currently, we offer the American Cultures badge to Boy Scouts.

All badges are scheduled on Saturday or Sunday as requested by the troop. The badges take approximately 3-4 hours to complete. Once the boys complete their requirements, please feel free to stay and explore the rest of the museum, which is open daily until 5 p.m. Your registration fee of $5.50 per Scout and adult covers admission to the museum.
