Fifth Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament

Allegheny Country Club

Golfers are invited to join some of Pittsburgh's greatest athletes at the Allegheny Country Club as part of the Fifth Annual History Center Celebrity Golf Tournament. Each foursome in the tournament is paired with a Pittsburgh sports celebrity.

Proceeds benefit the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum.

Second Annual Glass Collectors Expo

Sunday, Sept. 21, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.


Please join the History Center for our second annual Glass Expo, featuring regional and national collector clubs and museums. Meet the experts who will dazzle you with their knowledge and displays of Pittsburgh-made glass.

In addition, visitors can:

  • View tablescapes created with historical glass, featuring Victorian flair through 1950's barware

  • Bring in 2 PIECES of glass for identification

  • Learn how to care for glass

  • Add to their glass library

  • Attend mini-lectures on a variety of topics, including: depression glass, historic bottles, glass history and much more!

Renaissance & Baroque's 40th anniversary kicks off with its first commissioned work. The Chris Norman Ensemble, with Concerto Calledonia and the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama, will present a multimedia celebration of the founding of Pittsburgh.

Chris Norman has been combing through primary sources in order to deliver a historically accurate account of the decisive "Battle at the Forks." Soldiers used music and poetry to boost morale during bouts of waning supplies and disease.

Museum Day 2008

The History Center will extend free general admission for up to two people when presented with a Museum Day Admission Card.

The Admission Card will be included in the September 2008 issue of Smithsonian magazine and available for download via the Museum Day Web site.

Both versions of the Museum Day Admission Card are valid for free general admission.

The following restrictions apply:

  • One-time use on Sept. 27, 2008.
  • Card must be presented for free general admission.
  • Admission Card is good for general admission for attendee plus one guest.
  • One Admission Card per household.
  • Not for use with any other offer.
  • No rain checks.

Pittsburgh's Hidden Treasures,
An Antiques Appraisal Show

Join the History Center and KDKA-TV for a unique event this fall, "Pittsburgh's Hidden Treasures, An Antiques Appraisal Show."

Bring your collectibles, heirlooms, and other prized possessions and meet with more than 20 professional appraisers to learn if you have a stud or a dud.

Throughout the day, KDKA cameras will roam the History Center seeking out the most unique and unusual items that visitors have uncovered for a series of 30-minute special programs to air later this year.

RADical Day at the History Center

The Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD) will celebrate "RADical Days" again this fall. Scheduled to begin Sept. 20 and expected to last three weeks, "RADical Days" offers free admission to participating museums, cultural events, and performances in the Pittsburgh area.

Sunday, Oct. 4 marks the History Center's RADical Day, meaning free admission to the History Center and Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum for everyone!

Special guests, "Otets Paasi," a folk dance ensemble of the Bulgarian Macedonian National Education Center, will also perform.

Youth Heritage Festival

The History Center, in partnership with the Young Preservationist Association of Pittsburgh and the Rivers Of Steel, presents the first-annual Youth Heritage Festival, engaging young people in the preservation of their community history.

This one-day festival will feature keynote speakers Bill Strickland and Esther Bush, and include special tours, interactive sessions, and museum workshops. A $35 registration fee includes the event, lunch and a reception.

In honor of Pittsburgh's 250th birthday, the History Center will host a number of events and programs to shine the spotlight on our region's tradition of innovation.

    In celebration of Pittsburgh's 250th birthday, the History Center unveiled Pittsburgh At 250, a new display honoring our region's historic anniversary celebrations. Pittsburgh At 250 showcases events and keepsakes that mark the key anniversaries in 1858, 1908, 1958, and 2008, when city leaders and residents celebrated our city's founding.

    The History Center opens its new blockbuster exhibition, Pittsburgh: A Tradition of Innovation, celebrating the Pittsburgh people and inventions that have changed the world. In honor of Pittsburgh's 250th anniversary, this 13,000 square-foot exhibition traces Pittsburgh's incredible impact on our region, nation, and world.

Heritage Holidays
